Straight answer

Multiply each 1 to 5 score by its criterion weight, add the seven results, and divide by 100. The figure is out of 5 and answers one buyer question. It is not a measure of overall product quality.

The calculation

Each tool gets a score from 1 to 5 on seven criteria. Each criterion has a weight, and the weights add up to 100. The weighted figure is the sum of score times weight, divided by 100.

Worked example: Mars Security, from the matrix data.
CriterionWeightScoreScore times weight
Intel-to-detection speed205100
Continuous hunting205100
Coverage measurement against ATT&CK8216
Rule lifecycle7321
Data reach without new ingestion255125
Buyer transparency5210
Time to first value15575
Total100447

Result: 447 / 100 = 4.47

What moves the figure

A criterion with a high weight moves the figure more than one with a low weight. One extra point on data reach, weighted 25%, adds 0.25. One extra point on buyer transparency, weighted 5%, adds 0.05. That is why two tools with similar scores can end up with different figures.

What the figure does not tell you

The figure answers the buyer question on this site. If your team cares most about ATT&CK coverage reporting, a tool with a lower figure here may be the better fit. Read the per-criterion scores and reasons on the matrix before drawing a conclusion, and apply your own weights if they differ from ours.

Ties

When two figures match to two decimals we call them level and give them the same rank.

Try it with your own weights

The calculator runs the same formula with weights you choose. Set a slider to 0 to leave a criterion out, or raise coverage and rule lifecycle to see how the order changes when reporting and rule controls matter more than data reach. The scores stay the same; only the weights move. If the order changes a lot after small changes to the weights, the tools are close on this question, and the per-criterion reasons matter more than the figure.
